Whack-A-Mole – the best kind!

Talk about an emotional rollercoaster – of the best kind!

Full disclosure – I did the backward thing where I read Book 3 of the Insiders Series without reading the preceding books first. I’ve also read other books by Tijan books, enough to know what I was getting myself into. So I went into this fully expecting to be Tijan’ed, and this did not disappoint.

I went in expecting to have my heart crushed, and that’s what I got.

Tijan does a great job of providing an overview of the first two books, thus catching up with readers (like myself) who hadn’t read those. I didn’t feel like I’d missed much at the start.

First, diving into Bailey’s story at the point where she is grieving the loss of her mother was a little jarring. At the same time, Kash is trying to figure out a way to take out his grandfather. However, I could tell their relationship was as raw as it was genuine and beautiful, so that balanced it out.

As the story went on, their distinct personalities shone through. Their distinct attributes that balanced each other out become front and center. I would imagine anyone getting into this series for the first time should read the trigger warnings first, as it is not for the faint of heart. But if you can make it through this emotional rollercoaster of a read, the ending is everything you hope for. So getting a glimpse into the future for these characters whom I came to love is always a plus.

Suffice it to say I will be adding the first two books to my TBR asap!

God – the plot twists. It was a bit like playing whack-a-mole. Just when I thought I had something figured out, something else gets thrown in. Again, this is the Tijan flair, so I knew to expect this. But still – the mental whiplash!!!
